Day 1 Machame Gate → Machame Camp
🥾 Hike: 5–6 hrs 📍 Start: 1,800m 🏕️ Camp: 3,000m 🌿 Zone: Rainforest

After breakfast in Moshi, drive to Machame Gate for park registration before beginning your ascent. The trail leads through dense, lush rainforest that is humid, green, and alive with birdlife. You ascend gradually through towering trees draped in moss and ferns, with the sounds of the forest all around you.

The hike takes around 5–6 hours with a picnic lunch served en route. Upon arrival at Machame Camp, your crew will have the tents set up and a hot dinner waiting — a well-earned rest in a beautiful forest environment.

Day 2 Machame Camp → Shira 2 Camp
🥾 Hike: 4–5 hrs 📍 Start: 3,000m 🏕️ Camp: 3,840m 🌾 Zone: Heath & Moorland

Continue your ascent through heath and moorland zones as the landscape gradually opens up and vegetation changes dramatically. The trail becomes increasingly scenic with wider mountain views revealing themselves as the forest gives way to open moorland.

As you approach the vast Shira Plateau — one of the largest high-altitude plateaus in Africa — the scale of Kilimanjaro becomes truly awe-inspiring. After 4–5 hours of hiking you arrive at Shira 2 Camp, a high-altitude open environment that is spectacular for photography, particularly at sunset.

Day 3 Shira 2 Camp → Barranco Camp (via Lava Tower)
🥾 Hike: 6–7 hrs 📍 High Point: 4,600m 🏕️ Camp: 3,960m 🪨 Zone: Alpine Desert

Today is a crucial acclimatization day. You ascend to Lava Tower at 4,600m — entering the alpine desert zone with dramatic rocky terrain and thin air — before descending to Barranco Camp at 3,960m. This "climb high, sleep low" strategy is key to helping your body adapt to altitude safely and effectively.

The landscape shifts dramatically throughout the day, from rocky alpine desert to the dramatic Barranco Valley with its giant groundsels and lobelias. You arrive at Barranco Camp beneath the towering Barranco Wall — one of the most iconic features of the Machame Route — for overnight stay.

Day 4 Barranco Camp → Barafu Camp
🥾 Hike: 6–7 hrs 📍 Start: 3,960m 🏕️ Camp: 4,640m 🧗 Barranco Wall

The day begins with the thrilling ascent of the famous Barranco Wall — a steep but non-technical scramble that rewards climbers with some of the most stunning views of Kibo Peak. Though it looks intimidating, your guide will lead you safely through every step with confidence.

After conquering the wall, the trail continues through ridges and valleys, steadily gaining altitude toward Barafu Camp — the final base camp before summit night. Upon arrival at 4,640m, you rest early and prepare both physically and mentally for the midnight push to the summit.

Day 5 Barafu Camp → Uhuru Peak → Mweka Camp
🌙 Summit Push: Midnight 🗻 Uhuru Peak: 5,895m 🏕️ Camp: 3,100m 🌅 Sunrise at Summit

Around midnight, you begin your summit push under a sky full of stars. The climb is slow, cold, and physically demanding due to the extreme altitude — but your guide will set a steady "pole pole" (slowly, slowly) pace to keep you moving safely. With determination and the support of your experienced crew, you push through the final hours of darkness.

As the African sun rises over the horizon, you reach Uhuru Peak at 5,895m — the Roof of Africa and the highest point on the continent. Take in the breathtaking panoramic views, celebrate your incredible achievement, and savour a moment you will remember for the rest of your life. Afterwards, descend back to Barafu Camp for rest, then continue further down to Mweka Camp in the rainforest zone for overnight.

Day 6 Mweka Camp → Mweka Gate → Moshi

After breakfast, descend through the lush rainforest toward Mweka Gate. The air becomes noticeably warmer and richer in oxygen with every step, making this final descent feel both physically relieving and emotionally satisfying. The forest feels alive and vibrant after the stark high-altitude terrain above.

At Mweka Gate, successful summiteers receive their official summit certificates — a proud testament to their achievement. From the gate, transfer back to Moshi for a well-deserved rest, hot shower, and celebration with your crew.
