The Lemosho Route is widely regarded as one of the most scenic and well-balanced routes to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Starting from the western side of the mountain at Londorossi Gate, this trail offers a gradual ascent that significantly improves acclimatization and increases summit success rates.
The route passes through diverse ecological zones — from lush rainforest to alpine desert — before reaching the icy summit of Uhuru Peak (5,895m). This is a fully supported trekking experience with professional guides, porters, and a dedicated mountain crew ensuring safety, comfort, and success throughout the journey.
After a detailed briefing with your mountain team, you drive to Londorossi Gate for registration and permit processing. The trek begins through dense rainforest, where the trail is surrounded by rich vegetation, birds, and occasional wildlife. The hike is steady but humid, requiring rain gear due to frequent forest mist and showers.
Upon arrival at Mti Mkubwa Camp, your crew will set up camp and prepare hot meals. In the afternoon, you will take an acclimatization hike toward Shira 1 Camp before returning to camp for dinner and overnight rest.
Today's trek continues gradually into the moorland zone, offering your first clear views of the Shira Plateau and, weather permitting, Mount Meru in the distance. The trail is steady and designed to support acclimatization while introducing higher altitude conditions.
Upon arrival at Shira 1 Camp, lunch is served, followed by rest or short walks around the surrounding landscape.
You continue across the Shira Plateau with gentle ascents and open views of Kilimanjaro's vast landscapes. This section offers some of the most dramatic scenery on the mountain, with wide horizons and unique alpine vegetation.
After reaching Shira 2 Camp, you enjoy lunch and rest before an acclimatization hike toward the Lava Tower area to prepare your body for higher altitude.
Today is a key acclimatization stage as you ascend to Lava Tower at 4,630m. The high altitude may feel challenging, but it plays a crucial role in preparing your body for the summit. After lunch at Lava Tower, you descend into the beautiful Barranco Valley.
You arrive at Barranco Camp, located beneath the towering Barranco Wall, offering one of the most iconic views on Kilimanjaro.
The day begins with an ascent of the famous Barranco Wall, a thrilling yet non-technical climb that rewards you with panoramic views of Kibo Peak. After crossing the wall, the trail continues with rolling ascents and descents through alpine terrain.
You arrive at Karanga Camp for lunch and rest, followed by a short acclimatization hike toward the Barafu direction before returning to camp.
After breakfast, you trek toward Barafu Camp, the final base before summit night. The terrain becomes more rugged and dry as you enter the alpine desert zone. Upon arrival, tents are set up for rest and preparation.
In the afternoon, you undertake a final acclimatization hike toward Kosovo Camp before returning for early dinner and sleep in preparation for the summit attempt.
You begin your summit attempt shortly after midnight under a sky full of stars. The climb is slow and steady due to altitude, but your guide supports you throughout the journey. At sunrise, you reach Stella Point and continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa.
After celebrating your achievement, you descend back to Barafu Camp for rest before continuing down to Millennium Camp for overnight recovery.
After breakfast, you descend through lush rainforest toward Mweka Gate. The lower altitude brings relief as you complete your final stretch.
At the gate, you receive your summit certificate and celebrate your achievement with your mountain team before transferring back to Arusha or the airport.
